Iowa Governor signed a bill to legalize sports betting, on May 15. The document allows you to bet on sports in local gambling establishments, as well as online.
It is estimated that state residents will be able to make their first legal bets at Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs. Representatives of the casino said that the terminals for bets will be located throughout the institution. NFL veteran Tim Dwight said he plans to become the first Ameristar client to usher in an era of legal sports betting in the state.
"Iowa is ready to become the first state in the Midwest offering legal sports betting since the abolition of the federal ban last year. We appreciate the efforts of the Commission on the jumps and Gaming at Iowa State, which will allow us to offer these services before the start of the football season", - said the executive director of Penn National Gaming Timothy Wilmott.
To start working in the new market, gambling operators will have to pay $ 45 thousand to obtain a license. The activities of sportsbooks will be subject to 6.75-percent tax.
